OpenAI enhances ChatGPT with plugin extensions and app integration

OpenAI announced at its Dev Day event that it is expanding ChatGPT’s capabilities by allowing developers to create app-like experiences within the platform through plugin extensions. These extensions will provide apps with a dedicated space in the ChatGPT sidebar, enabling interactive panels for users to work with their tools while engaging in conversations. The company also highlighted improvements in plugin development tools and discovery processes, including a new Plugin Creator and a redesigned submission flow with clearer feedback. Additionally, ChatGPT Sites can now host these plugins, allowing users to share apps with colleagues. OpenAI also introduced support for the MCP Events specification, enabling plugins to trigger automations based on events in connected applications.
