OpenAI expands ChatGPT capabilities with apple messages integration

OpenAI has announced an update to its macOS version of the ChatGPT application, introducing integration with Apple's Messages app. The new feature allows users to read, compose, and send text messages, as well as search through their message history and generate conversation summaries. The company emphasized that this functionality requires explicit user consent and will not index all message data. Users must grant multiple permissions within both the ChatGPT application and macOS settings, including enabling full disk access and allowing access to contact names and automation tools. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg expressed concerns that this development could raise privacy issues and potentially compete with Apple's upcoming Siri AI enhancements.
