OpenAI has launched commercial operations in Brazil, aiming to deepen its long-term commitment to the country and leverage AI for economic and social benefits. Brazil is one of ChatGPT’s three largest markets by weekly active users, with user numbers nearly doubling over the past year and daily messages reaching 215 million. An independent study estimates AI could add nearly R$1 trillion to Brazil’s economy by 2030. The country ranks second globally in developers using the OpenAI API and is Codex’s largest market in Latin America, with weekly Codex users growing over elevenfold since the start of 2026. OpenAI’s local team will support Brazilian organizations in identifying AI use cases, preparing personnel, and establishing responsible governance. The company also held its first OpenAI para Devs roadshow in Brazil, featuring 285 developers and culminating in the OpenAI Hackathon Brasil, where participants developed a prototype to assist micro and small businesses with public procurement. The event highlighted Brazil’s growing creativity in AI adoption, including high rates of ChatGPT Images use and voice interactions. OpenAI’s efforts include collaborating with Brazilian creators like Dell Nunes and Paulo Aguiar, who are using AI to shape new forms of artistic expression. The company emphasized a two-way exchange, learning from Brazil’s unique AI applications while supporting its community in building an AI-powered future.
