OpenAI introduces multi-account switching for ChatGPT
OpenAI has launched a feature allowing users to switch between multiple ChatGPT accounts across web, iOS, and Android platforms, with desktop support coming soon. The update enables users to log in to up to two accounts simultaneously and switch between them without logging out, though only one account can be active at a time. This change addresses the long-standing issue of managing personal and professional accounts, as users no longer need to repeatedly log in and out. OpenAI emphasized that account switching does not transfer chat history, files, or settings between accounts, and each account maintains its own workspace and billing. Users can create additional accounts, but only two can be logged in on a single device. Mobile users can also receive notifications tailored to each account, with the app switching to the relevant account when a notification is clicked.
The update allows for seamless transitions between accounts, with no shared data between them. While the new feature does not migrate chat records between accounts, users must subscribe separately for paid features on new accounts. OpenAI’s announcement highlights the growing demand for flexible AI account management, particularly for professionals who use ChatGPT for both personal and work purposes.
