OpenAI launches data agent to empower users with self-service analytics
OpenAI has introduced a new Data agent within ChatGPT Work, enabling users to transform company data into actionable insights, interactive dashboards, and reports through natural language queries. The tool connects to approved data sources such as Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery, and Snowflake, and integrates files from Google Drive and SharePoint. It leverages semantic layers and business definitions to provide contextually relevant analysis.
The Data agent allows users to ask follow-up questions, build dashboards, and share findings with teams, while maintaining data security through role-based access controls. OpenAI’s product and GTM teams extensively use the tool, with data teams ensuring shared definitions and access rules. Companies like NTT Data and Thermo Fisher are already utilizing the agent to analyze sales, detect errors, and optimize resource allocation.
Users can access the Data agent via the Plugins directory in ChatGPT Work, with administrators managing availability and configurations. The tool supports integration with platforms like Power BI and Tableau, enabling seamless analysis within existing workflows.
