OpenAI launches decisions API for faster, cost-effective application decisions
OpenAI has launched the Decisions API, a tool designed to enable applications and agents to make fast, focused, and low-cost decisions. Built with GPT-6 Luna, the API is optimized for questions with bounded answers, allowing near real-time decisions from text, images, and structured inputs up to 10 times faster than the Responses API.
The API is now generally available, with support for three answer types: probability, choice, and score. It also integrates natively with GPT-Live, enhancing interactive voice applications. Developers can define questions, provide context, and receive structured responses to guide application workflows.
The API costs $0.10 per million input tokens, with cached inputs at $0.01 per million tokens. Regional processing is available in the US and EU, with Zero Data Retention for eligible customers. Early adopters have used the API across various use cases, including personal finance, communications, and customer support.
