OpenAI has launched GPT-6.1 Terra, a new model that combines visual reasoning, precise computer use, and natural writing. It is a significant upgrade from GPT-5.6 Terra, excelling in tasks like drafting proposals, interpreting technical drawings, and editing videos. GPT-6.1 Terra offers a new balance of speed, capability, and cost, with standard API prices 50% lower than GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-6.1 Sol. It outperforms GPT-5.6 Terra on the Agents’ Last Exam benchmark, scoring 15 percentage points higher at one-third the cost. On MMMU-Pro, it surpasses GPT-5.6 Terra at every reasoning setting and nearly matches GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol at a lower cost. The model also shows improved error rates, with a 37 percentage point drop from 53.6% to 16.7% at low reasoning effort. At maximum effort, the error rate fell by 18 percentage points to 4.3%, nearly matching GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol. In coding tasks, GPT-6.1 Terra solves 50.3% of Terminal-Bench 4.0 tasks, more than double GPT-5.6 Terra’s 21.5%. It is now available to Plus, Pro, Enterprise, and Edu users in ChatGPT Work and Codex, with pricing at $1 per million input tokens, $0.05 per million cached input tokens, and $5 per million output tokens.
