OpenAI plans to unify chatgpt's chat and work functions

OpenAI is preparing to integrate the Chat and Work tabs within the ChatGPT desktop application to streamline the user experience, which has previously been criticized for its complexity. This consolidation aims to allow users to manage an idea from initial exploration through execution in a single interface, enabling them to guide ChatGPT in tasks like building websites or creating presentations using files and plugins. Codex will remain a distinct feature within the desktop app. Initially, this merged functionality will be offered to a select group of users for feedback before a broader release. Furthermore, OpenAI announced that this transition will cause both ChatGPT and Codex to draw from a shared token allowance pool. While the company stated this change should not affect most users, some may experience more frequent token resets depending on their usage and the models they employ. This move follows a similar consolidation by rival Anthropic, which merged Claude's chat and Cowork features into one screen back in September.
