OpenAI unveils gpt-6 sol and luna for enhanced efficiency and affordability

OpenAI has launched GPT-6 Sol and Luna, two new models designed to deliver advanced AI capabilities at a lower cost. These models are part of the GPT-6 family, which includes the previously released GPT-6 Astra, considered the most intelligent and aligned model. Sol and Luna are optimized for cost efficiency, with API prices reduced by 50% compared to their GPT-5.6 counterparts. They perform well in benchmarks like AutomationBench and DeepSWE, outperforming competitors such as Claude Opus 5 and Fable 5.1 at significantly lower costs. GPT-6 Sol and Luna are now available in ChatGPT Work and Codex for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu users, with free and Go users gaining access to Luna via the desktop app. OpenAI also introduced improvements in prompt caching, reducing the need for fresh processing by over 50% across billions of requests.
