OpenClaw launches 2026.9.5 with atomic updates and enhanced features

OpenClaw, an open-source, MIT-licensed personal AI agent, has released version 2026.9.5, featuring Atomic Updates, Plugin Hot Reload, Conversation Sharing, and Expanded GPT Live. The update addresses long-standing issues with breaking updates by ensuring a working agent remains online during upgrades. Maintainer Jason Sy explained that prior to this fix, updates could either improve the system or cause catastrophic failure, leaving no agent available for repairs. The new process preserves a working agent to assist in diagnosing failed upgrades and includes an issue reporting button. The release notes highlight limitations, such as Atomic Updates applying only on supported paths and the inability to roll back database migrations. Users are advised to maintain verified backups before upgrading. New installations can use an official script, while existing users can run 'openclaw update'.
