OpenEvidence, an AI search engine for medical professionals, has reached a $15 billion valuation following a $250 million funding round, according to sources. The company, based in Miami, previously secured a $12 billion valuation in January 2026. The latest investment comes from hospital systems and Andreessen Horowitz, bringing its total raised in the past year to over $1 billion, including contributions from Thrive Capital, DST, GV, Kleiner Perkins, and Sequoia Capital. OpenEvidence, which has become widely used by medical professionals, claims over two-thirds of U.S. doctors rely on its AI product for diagnostic and treatment advice, according to CNBC. The startup has also formed partnerships with major technology firms, including Nvidia and Anthropic, and integrates with Google and Microsoft's AI tools. With rising anti-AI sentiment potentially limiting data center expansion, OpenEvidence may consider selling itself to secure access to computing resources. Recent trends show a surge in AI mergers and acquisitions, with Nvidia acquiring HuggingFace for nearly $13 billion and Stripe purchasing OpenRouter for around $8 billion. While OpenEvidence has not confirmed any acquisition interest, it may prefer to remain independent, leveraging its foothold in the healthcare market and experience with sensitive medical data.
