Lynette Howell Taylor, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, emphasized during an interview at the Tokyo International Film Festival that AI remains a tool, and the Oscars will continue to honor films driven by human creativity. Taylor noted that AI is already deeply integrated into visual effects and post-production, but the Academy will continue to debate its impact on eligibility criteria. She stressed that while technology can enhance the viewer experience, the core of a film must remain a 'human-driven workflow.' Copyright, transparency, and disclosure are key issues the Academy must address when developing AI-related rules. In addition to AI, the Academy is expanding opportunities for international films. The 99th Oscars now allow non-English films to qualify for the International Feature Film Award if they win prestigious awards such as the Berlin Golden Bear, Cannes Golden Palm, Venice Golden Lion, Busan Best Film, Sundance World Cinema Grand Jury Prize, or Toronto Platform Award. The Academy also revealed that 25% of its members are non-American, and it is strengthening global ties through events in Tokyo, Busan, Rio, and Marrakech.
