Pentagon expands AI capabilities with custom ChatGPT and grok versions
The U.S. Department of Defense has integrated custom versions of OpenAI’s ChatGPT and xAI’s Grok into its GenAI.mil portal, providing access to 3 million civilian and military personnel. These tools, tailored for military use, are part of a broader initiative to enhance operational efficiency while maintaining data security.
GenAI.mil, launched last year, now has over 1.7 million unique users, offering secure access to commercial AI models without exposing sensitive information. The Pentagon emphasized that these tools support unclassified tasks like logistics and planning, with additional features planned for the future.
Grok, developed by SpaceX’s Starshield AI, is highlighted for its potential to improve mission execution and collaboration. The department has also partnered with companies like Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, and Nvidia to bolster its AI capabilities.
