Perplexity AI launches portable computer with local AI capabilities
Perplexity AI has introduced Portable Computer, a localized version of its Perplexity Computer multi-model orchestration agent, designed to offer private workflows and only access cloud computing resources when necessary.
The new system runs on NVIDIA DGX Spark, which supports Linux operating systems, with support for Windows and GeForce RTX / RTX Pro GPUs expected soon. The Portable Computer is equipped with either the Qwen 3.8 27B model or a version of the PPLX 27B model trained by Perplexity AI.
The company is also developing a fine-tuned variant of the Nemotron 3.5 Lightning model to achieve ultra-fast response times. The release follows previous announcements about Perplexity Computer, which highlighted its ability to split AI tasks between privacy and computational power, and its subscription-based pricing model at $200 per month.
