Preferred networks launches plamo 3 translate 31b model with superior japanese translation performance
Preferred Networks (PFN), a Japanese company, announced on October 8, 2026, the release of its PLaMo 3 Translate 31B model, designed for fluent Japanese translation while supporting multiple languages. The model is entirely developed in Japan, with approximately 30% of its training data in Japanese.
It is based on the PLaMo 3 foundation model, expanding language support from two to 53, including an online meeting translation mode covering 15 languages. PFN claims the model outperforms OpenAI's GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Astra in four translation benchmarks.
The model's cost is 14 yen per 100,000 characters, roughly 0.59 yuan, significantly lower than competitors.
