Qualcomm and prismml unveil 1-bit Bonsai model for AI glasses
At the 2026 Snapdragon Summit, Qualcomm and PrismML demonstrated a 2-billion-parameter 1-bit quantized Bonsai vision model running on the Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 smart glasses platform. This advancement enables AI glasses to perform image recognition and answer questions offline. The model is based on PrismML's Bons,ai 1.7B version, with precision reduced to 1-bit, allowing it to store four times more parameters in the same memory space and use one-quarter the memory of traditional 4-bit models. Text token generation speed is also doubled.
The 1-bit model allows AI interactions to occur locally, eliminating the need for cloud connectivity. This includes object identification, text translation, and environment-related question-answering, all without hand use. The model also reduces memory and power consumption, extending battery life and minimizing heat, which is critical for compact smart glasses. Qualcomm and PrismML emphasized the improved wearing experience due to these enhancements.
