Reliance Jio, led by India’s richest man Mukesh Ambani, has launched a cloud PC service called JioPC, enabling users to convert aging computers into AI-ready machines without hardware upgrades. Initially launched in July 2025, the service is now available to all internet users in India, offering virtual PCs with up to eight virtual CPUs, 16GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage. Plans start at ₹1,000 for two months, with higher-tier options available for longer subscriptions. According to IDC, India had over 65 million PCs in use in 2025, with expectations of reaching 69 million by year-end. Jio aims to extend PC lifecycles by shifting processing to its data centers, reducing the need for hardware replacements. Prabhu Ram of CyberMedia Research noted that JioPC could create a price-sensitive market for users who cannot afford new AI-capable PCs. However, challenges remain, including reliance on stable internet connections and competition from refurbished PCs. Jio’s service also lacks dedicated AI accelerators, raising questions about its ability to redefine AI-ready PCs. Experts suggest the success of JioPC will depend on whether users adopt cloud computing as a daily utility rather than a temporary solution.
