Samsung develops AI glasses with display, set for 2027 or 2028

Samsung Electronics is developing its first AI glasses with a display, set to launch in late 2027 or early 2028, according to industry sources. The device, similar to Meta’s Ray-Ban Display glasses, will show colored visual information on the lenses in addition to audio functionality. Samsung has requested Samsung Display to develop a micro display for the glasses, specifying requirements for size, display area, color capability, and cost. The company is evaluating OLEDoS and LEDoS panel technologies, prioritizing cost and yield control, with a preference for white light OLEDoS in the engineering phase. The glasses will use a near-eye optical system to project lightweight information like text and notifications. Samsung is also assessing single and dual-lens optical architectures. The display will use a 4-bit grayscale scheme to ensure high readability and low power consumption rather than high-resolution color reproduction. The AI glasses will function as an extension of a smartphone, relying on the phone for core processing.
