Samsung plans mid-december launch of first AI smart glasses in south korea and US, aiming to challenge meta
TrendForce reported that Samsung is preparing to enter the AI smart glasses market, intending to debut its first such device, tentatively named Intelligent Eyewear, in South Korea and the United States around mid-December. The initial rollout will focus on these two markets, as the company seeks to gauge demand and user feedback before expanding to regions including Europe, China, and Japan.
The device is set to run on the Google Android XR platform and integrate Gemini AI, offering features like real-time translation and voice navigation via its camera and microphone. It will also allow users to capture meeting and document scenes, organizing the data into the Galaxy phone's Notes app, with interaction primarily relying on voice, as it lacks a display screen. Hardware specifications include the Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 processor and a battery life of up to nine hours.
Samsung has collaborated with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker on the design. Prior announcements included two design concepts shown at Google I/O in May of this year, and two others revealed at the Galaxy Unpacked event last month in London. The market faces competition from XREAL, which recently launched the XREAL AURA, and Meta, which has an established presence across various price points in the smart glasses sector.
