Saturday night live satirizes anthropic's AI concerns with a split personality sketch

On September 26, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei became the subject of a satirical sketch on Saturday Night Live, where comedian Jane Wisckler portrayed him as a clumsy and arrogant figure. The sketch depicted two conflicting personalities of Amodei—one skilled in media relations and the other untrained and unsettling. The two personas engaged in direct dialogue throughout the segment. During the show, host Michael Che asked Wisckler about AI’s benefits, prompting the two Amodeis to continue their internal debate. Amodei recently expressed serious concerns about AI models losing control, urging AI firms to slow development and accept government regulation. However, he has since promoted Anthropic’s recent breakthroughs in medical research and protein structure. Despite these warnings, there remains no consensus in Washington or Silicon Valley to pause AI development. In the sketch, Wisckler’s Amodei declared, 'AI is the devil, and I am its creator.' Meta’s former chief AI scientist, Yann LeCun, responded to the sketch on X with a series of laughing emojis, indicating his approval of the satire.
