Saudi aramco acquires 49% stake in pif-owned AI startup HUMAIN for billions
Saudi Aramco, the world's largest petrochemical firm, is integrating artificial intelligence capabilities by acquiring a 49% stake in HUMAIN, an AI startup fully owned by the Saudi sovereign wealth fund, PIF. This deal, announced on November 1st, positions the national AI entity within the oil giant's structure, with PIF retaining the majority 51% ownership.
The investment involves Aramco injecting approximately 9.9 billion Saudi riyals, equivalent to about RMB 17.55 billion, alongside transferring key AI assets. Both parent entities will contribute their respective AI talent and capabilities to HUMAIN, ensuring state capital maintains ultimate oversight of the venture.
This strategic move aims to apply HUMAIN's advanced AI infrastructure to Aramco's industrial operations, spanning areas from seismic exploration and petrochemical scheduling to global supply chain optimization. This integration transforms AI application from theoretical concepts into practical, production-line efficiencies, fueling Saudi Arabia's economic diversification goals by creating a feedback loop between energy profits and AI development.
