ScrollEd transforms textbooks into tiktok-style feeds for students

ScrollEd, a startup based in Palo Alto, is reimagining how students engage with educational content by turning textbooks into TikTok-style feeds. The company's app converts text files, including PDFs and books, into a scrollable feed featuring AI-generated videos, audio, text, and interactive quizzes. Co-founder Utsav Gupta explained that younger generations prefer short-form content, and ScrollEd aims to meet them where they are by making deeper learning as easy as swiping through a feed. The startup, founded this year by Gupta and his wife Rebecca Neff, targets educational institutions, corporate training, and individual users. ScrollEd plans to launch its consumer business at TechCrunch Disrupt, offering a freemium model with free content and paid subscriptions for institutions. The company is also developing infrastructure to allow educators to tailor content to individual learners. Gupta emphasized the importance of balancing engagement with educational value, stating that curiosity driven by short videos can lead to deeper exploration. ScrollEd's mission is to create a social network that is more beneficial for users, with a focus on building a comprehensive lesson library and source-checking workflow. The startup is currently expanding its pilot programs and preparing for institutional adoption, aiming to revolutionize how educational material is consumed and assessed.
