Singapore man faces 10 years in prison for spreading ai-generated crocodile photo

A Singaporean man, Ye Lin, has been charged with spreading a false image of a crocodile attacking a reservoir using AI-generated content. The incident, which occurred on August 20, 2026, involved the use of the Google Gemini app to create the image, which was then shared with a colleague, Min Min Oo. The image quickly spread online, prompting the National Water Agency (PUB) to investigate and report the incident to the police. PUB confirmed the image was fake on August 21 and reported it to the authorities. Ye Lin is accused of spreading false information and obstructing justice by deleting the image and his actions. He is set to appear in court on November 10, where he could face up to 10 years in prison and a fine of 10,000 Singapore dollars. The police have stated they take a zero-tolerance approach to spreading false information.
