Orbital data centers, which leverage solar power and vast space real estate, are increasingly becoming potential targets for military conflict in space. As global militaries adopt artificial intelligence, they are viewing computing infrastructure as vital to national security.
The expansion of these orbital facilities raises concerns about the risk of catastrophic space warfare. According to Dr.
Elena Petrova, a space security analyst at the International Institute for Strategic Studies, "the militarization of space is accelerating, and these data centers are now seen as strategic assets." Recent reports indicate that several nations are developing anti-satellite weapons capable of targeting such facilities.
With the current date being 2026-10-13, the urgency to address these risks has grown, as the potential for conflict in space becomes more tangible.
