Synopsys seeks collaboration with chinese AI labs to accelerate chip design in china
On September 30, Synopsys, a leading provider of chip design software, announced a multi-year partnership with OpenAI to develop the GPT-Synopsys AI model. This collaboration aims to automate chip design processes and significantly reduce development timelines.
The company’s chief product officer, Ravi Subramanian, revealed that Synopsys is exploring partnerships with Chinese AI labs to tailor design tools for the Chinese market. Despite tightened U.S. export controls on AI and semiconductors, Synopsys remains committed to leveraging AI-powered versions of its tools to support Chinese chipmakers.
In its annual investor day event, Synopsys projected a 15% revenue increase for the 2027 fiscal year, reaching $111.5 billion. Subramanian emphasized the need for AI-enhanced design tools as chip development cycles are accelerating, with full design processes expected to be completed within a year.
