Tencent is preparing to release a new AI-powered search engine aimed at general consumers, featuring a streamlined interface and enhanced ranking of authoritative sources. This new offering will integrate AI questioning directly within the web search experience. This consumer-facing product shares its underlying technology with Tencent's 'Yuanbao Search,' which was previously rolled out to enterprise clients two weeks ago and has been operating internally for several years. Internal sources indicate that the consumer search, the search embedded in the Yuanbao App, and the Tencent Cloud 'Yuanbao Search' API all utilize the same core capability, merely presented through different access points. Currently, Yuanbao Search offers Skill, MCP, and API access, with limited invitations allowing up to 6,000 calls in October and November. The decision to commercialize this capability externally is reportedly driven by the rise of Agent technology, prompting Tencent to leverage its search infrastructure after years of internal development, which integrated core technologies from QQ Browser and Sogou Search. Previously, this capability was restricted to QQ Browser and Sogou Search. The shift to an external cloud service reflects Tencent's move beyond serving only internal and existing clients, capitalizing on the growing demand for standardized search APIs across various AI applications.
