Tesla's texas Optimus factory nears structural completion, production still months away

A X platform user, Joe Tegtmeyer, recently used drones to observe the construction progress of Tesla's Texas Gigafactory, revealing that the main structural steel framework is nearly complete. The structure is close to the northern edge of the building, with approximately five column spans remaining before reaching the northern perimeter beam. Meanwhile, the upper three floors are undergoing concrete pouring, and additional areas are being reinforced with rebar for future concrete work. Tegtmeyer estimates that the factory's target annual production capacity could reach 10 million units, with production expected to begin in late 2027. However, Tesla's Q2 2026 earnings report indicated that both the California and Texas Optimus factories are still under construction, while the Fremont factory has halted Model X and Model S production lines to be converted for Optimus manufacturing. These developments suggest that full operational readiness remains some time away.
