San Antonio City Councilmember Ric Galvan recalls the early days of data centers in the city during the 2000s, when they were modest office buildings. However, the landscape has transformed significantly in recent years, with data centers evolving into large hyperscale facilities that support AI infrastructure.
Galvan notes that there are currently over a dozen data centers in his district, which spans approximately 55 square miles. He anticipates this number could rise to around 20 if proposed projects are realized. These facilities are concentrated along two main roads, leading to localized issues such as traffic and noise in the same neighborhoods.
