Trump's AI chatbot faces conflicting responses on election and capitol events
The Trump administration's AI service, America.gov, has been providing inconsistent answers to politically sensitive questions, according to Axios. On Tuesday, the chatbot contradicted the president on the 2020 election and the January 6 attack.
However, by Wednesday, some users received different responses, with the bot refusing to answer, stating it does not provide political commentary. Tech experts suggest multiple explanations for the inconsistency, but without specific details on how America.gov is configured, it is hard to determine the cause.
David Nesting, a former deputy chief information officer, noted that benign reasons could explain the fluctuation. Rumman Chowdhury, founding director of the Independent AI Evaluation Foundation, suggested the guardrails might shape outputs to align with the president's ideology.
The next version of America.gov, set for early 2027, will integrate across agencies to streamline federal services like Medicare enrollment and passport applications.
