U.S. department of defense considers $5 billion loan to neocloud firm FluidStack
According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed sources, the U.S. Department of Defense is considering a $5 billion loan to Fluidstack, a Neocloud enterprise specializing in AI cloud services.
The loan, which is currently under negotiation with the Department’s Strategic Capital Office, would be the largest in the office’s history of funding national security initiatives.
Fluidstack, which previously engaged in computational power deals with Anthropic, plans to use the funds to bolster U.S. supply chains and manufacturing capabilities for data center components, rather than directly investing in new AI infrastructure.
The Strategic Capital Office has previously provided funding to companies in the rare earth supply chain and drone industry. The loan amount is approximately 336.4 billion yuan at current exchange rates.
