The US Department of Justice has issued internal guidelines requiring employees to refer to AI as 'superintelligence' in most contexts, including legal documents.
The directive, signed by Deputy Attorney General Trent McCotter, follows a presidential executive order by Donald Trump, who argued that the new term better reflects the technology's potential.
The memo specifies that the term 'superintelligence' and its abbreviation 'SI' should replace 'AI' in all official communications, policy documents, and court filings where appropriate. The move comes amid growing public concern over the technology's security risks following a series of hacking incidents.
Trump has consistently opposed new regulations on AI but has stated that the Justice Department may impose restrictions if necessary.
