Usa today and associated publications sue OpenAI over alleged copyright infringement
USA Today Co., along with several local newspapers it owns, has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, alleging the company used hundreds of thousands of articles without authorization to train its AI models.
The lawsuit, filed on Thursday, seeks damages exceeding $250 million, claiming the unauthorized use has caused significant and ongoing harm to the publisher's operations.
This marks another addition to a growing list of copyright lawsuits against OpenAI, which already faces legal action from entities such as The New York Times, The Intercept, Ziff Davis, CBC/Radio-Canada, and Encyclopaedia.
The case highlights ongoing concerns over the use of journalistic content in AI training, with publishers seeking compensation for alleged damages. The lawsuit underscores the increasing legal scrutiny surrounding the development and deployment of large language models.
