XDOF, a startup in stealth mode for less than three months, is nearing a $1.2B Series B round, according to sources. Co-founded by UC Berkeley researchers Philipp Wu (CEO) and Fred Shent, the company emerged from stealth and raised a $70M Series A in June 2025, with participation from Thrive Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Lux, and Spark Capital. Annualized revenue approaching $50M has driven VC interest. XDOF aims to provide data pipelines, collection tools, and annotation systems for robotics, similar to Scale AI or Mercor. The startup is partnering with UC Berkeley’s AI Research lab to release ABC, the largest collection of high-quality robot training data, and works with 20 customers, including several frontier AI labs.
Wu previously highlighted the lack of large-scale data as a major obstacle to his research. He and Shent developed GELLO, a low-cost teleoperation system, leading to an influential robotics paper. XDOF combines remote robot teleoperation with human collectors wearing sensors to record everyday tasks. The company plans to hire and train global teams of data collectors, including teleoperators and egocentric operators. Other startups in the space include Mecka AI, Scale AI, and Micro1.
