Xiaohongshu combats ai-generated misinformation in key sectors
Xiaohongshu, a leading social media platform, has launched a comprehensive campaign to combat AI-generated false content in sectors such as medical beauty, accommodation, and education. The initiative, announced on September 3, targets behaviors like fabricating real scenes and inventing misleading experiences through AI-generated images and text. From June to August 2026, the platform removed nearly 120,000 AI-generated posts, including over 4,200 banned accounts in the medical beauty sector. Xiaohongshu emphasized the need to balance AI-assisted creation with strict compliance measures, implementing dynamic detection and scenario management to ensure authenticity in user-generated content. The platform’s actions aim to restore trust in its community amid rising concerns over AI-driven misinformation.
The campaign also focuses on cleaning up homogenized notes and fabricated personal experiences, with additional strategies to detect unmarked AI content and prevent repeated use across accounts. Xiaohongshu’s efforts reflect a broader industry push to regulate generative AI, setting a precedent for content trust and ecosystem health in the AI era.
