Meta's Fourier robot development faces US supply chain hurdles; prototype not for sale
Meta has confirmed its collaboration with Chinese firm Fourier on the development of the Max humanoid robot prototype. This project, which began in September of this year, aims to create a physical embodiment of Meta's Muse AI model capable of performing daily household tasks.
The prototype, developed over three months, stands nearly 5 feet tall and weighs approximately 106 pounds, incorporating Nvidia Thor chips. While the company is advancing the Max 2 prototype with planned torso redesigns and other upgrades, Meta has stated there are no current plans to sell these initial units.
A Meta spokesperson informed The Information that the development faces challenges related to sourcing components that are difficult to acquire within the United States. The spokesperson clarified that the partnership with Fourier is focused strictly on internal research and experimentation, not commercial sales.
