NVIDIA considers billion-dollar investment in perplexity AI
According to The Information, NVIDIA is considering investing several billion dollars in Perplexity AI during its latest funding round. The two companies are currently in discussions about the potential deal, which may also include a technology licensing agreement.
Perplexity AI is planning to raise funds at a valuation exceeding $300 billion, which is more than 60% higher than its valuation of $180 billion from July last year. The significant increase in valuation is attributed to the rapid growth of Perplexity Computer, the company's workflow automation agent.
Perplexity AI's annual revenue has surged from less than $250 million in early 2026 to over $750 million. The company has also announced plans to go public in 2028, regardless of the performance of competitors like Anthropic and OpenAI.
Additionally, NVIDIA has been reported to be in preliminary discussions with the South Korean AI chip company Rebellions, and has already invested $60 billion in Poolside, aiming to create a Chinese open-source AI competitor.
