NVIDIA expands AI ecosystem through strategic investments and partnerships
NVIDIA is deepening its involvement in the AI sector by exploring a potential investment in Perplexity, an AI search company, with the deal potentially valued at over $30 billion. This valuation marks more than a 50% increase compared to Perplexity's previous round of financing a year ago. The company's annual revenue has surged from $250 million to over $750 million, driven in part by the launch of its AI agent, Perplexity Computer, which can automate multi-step tasks. Increased token consumption from intelligent agent applications is expected to further boost revenue.
Previously, NVIDIA had considered acquiring Perplexity to access its technology and talent. In March, Perplexity joined NVIDIA's Nemotron alliance, aimed at advancing open AI model development. The company has raised over $1.7 billion in total funding, with CEO Aravind Srinivas indicating that a public listing is under consideration around 2028.
The potential investment will enhance NVIDIA's position within the AI supply chain. Recently, NVIDIA has also engaged in investments or partnerships with AI model companies Poolside and Groq, as well as AI chipmaker Enfabrica. The deal with Groq is valued at $2 billion, while the Enfabrica transaction is estimated at approximately $900 million. By investing in AI infrastructure and application firms, NVIDIA aims to expand its ecosystem influence and generate revenue through the purchase of its GPUs and other products by these companies.
As AI applications evolve from chat tools to intelligent agents, NVIDIA is reinforcing its core role in the AI supply chain through a dual strategy of capital investment and computing power ecosystems.
