OpenAI faces revenue discrepancy amid investor concerns

OpenAISource: TechCrunch - AI, Bloomberg08/10/2026, 20:39
OpenAI has reportedly revised its annualized revenue projection, now stating it is approaching $50 billion, down from a previously reported $70 billion. The Financial Times reports that the company informed investors of this adjustment, which was based on earlier shared information. The $70 billion figure was intended to provide a direct comparison with Anthropic’s annualized revenue, though the two companies calculate revenue differently. Anthropic includes sales from cloud partners, while OpenAI does not. TechCrunch sought comment from OpenAI but has not yet received a response. The revenue discrepancy has raised concerns about the justification for the company’s massive investments, including a $122 billion funding round in March. OpenAI’s IPO, previously expected this year, has been delayed until early 2027. Earlier leaked 2025 financials showed the company made about $13 billion but spent significantly more.
